As part of that, the IRS reminds military families that they may qualify for specific tax rules and benefits, which could lower the tax they owe or allow them more time to file and pay their federal taxes. Among the benefits is the ability for military members to exclude pay from taxable income if it’s earned while serving in a combat zone, or they can use that pay to increase eligibility for the Earned Income Credit.
